| What is the Whitehall Division of Police Citizens Police Academy? |
| The Citizens Police Academy offers an insight to the operations of the Whitehall
Division of Police. The academy educates citizens about the "hows" and "whys" of the department
and the citizens role in Community Oriented Policing. Students are urged to share their view of the department
with their neighbors in an effort to improve the Police-Citizen relationship. |
| What is the purpose? |
| The purpose of the Citizens Police Academy is to provide
information to students so that they may make informed and knowledgable judgements concerning the police
and their activity. Suspicions and misconceptions can be dispelled through this educational process, therefore
increasing the police and community rapport. |
| Who can attend? |
| Any resident or individual employed within
the city limits of Whitehall can attend the academy. You must be 21 years or older, and able
to commit to one evening a week to complete the ten week course. |
| What will you learn? |
| A wide variety of topics will be covered.
You will learn the ins and outs of day-to-day operations of the Police Department. You will gain an
opportunity to witness the functions of a police officer first-hand. You will gain an insight into the
legalities of police work. You will be come acquainted with the different divisions
within the department such as: Detective Bureau, Communications, SWAT, and the Bicycle Patrol. |
| Why should you attend the Citizens Police Academy? |
| It is an excellent opportunity to meet the individuals who work
to protect and serve you. There you will gain a true knowledge of the Police Department and a
chance to improve the working relationship between citizens and police. It is through this program that
we can work together to sustain the Whitehall community pride. |
| How can I make a difference after the classes are finished? |
| The first class graduated from the academy on May 15, 1996. Since
commencement, the graduates have formed an alumni assucation that meets on the
third Wednesday of every month at the police department. It is the intent of the organization
to continue to build a growing, trustworthy relationship between the citizens and the officers. |
